Innocence
Innocence.
Innocence
Ever thought about how life starts;
The naivety we come podded in,
The innocence we’re shrouded in first?
Ever thought about it?
How it peels away with each experience,
Layer by layer, breaking off, piece by piece
Exposing tender flesh and parts to the world’s harsh;
Each moment a tiny theft of purity.
In the beginning, we see the world
Through eyes unclouded by sorrow,
Hearts untouched by betrayal;
Still trusting, still loving, still believing.
We laugh and giggle without knowing pain,
We dream and wish without fearing failure,
We dance and sing without feeling self-conscious,
Every moment a testament of joy, pure and unblemished.
And then comes the lessons,
The stumbles, the falls, the bruises, the pain, the fear, the hopelessness
The moments when innocence is marred,
When the world etches it's sad stories onto our hearts.
We learn that not all smiles are kind,
That some promises are just empty,
That love can hurt and trust can be broken,
And our once-clear eyes grow shaded.
Yet, within the folds of our grown hearts,
A spark of that early innocence remains,
A reminder of our untainted beginnings,
Of the purity we once knew.
We search for it in laughter,
In the simple joys of life,
In the embrace of a loved one,
In the quiet moments of peace.
For though the innocence of life may fade,
It leaves behind a whisper, a shadow,
A call to remember, to cherish,
The beauty of our untarnished start.
So ever thought about how life starts?
The naivety we come podded in,
The innocence we’re shrouded in, first?
Ever thought about it?
How it peels away with each experience,
Yet leaves behind a tracing,
A memory, a yearning,
For life’s first moments.
